Aqualogica sunscreen review :My Honest Review of Aqualogica Sunscreen (for Combination Skin)

Aqualogica sunscreen review: Finding the ideal sunscreen can be difficult if, like me, you have combination skin, which is somewhat oily in the T-zone and dry around the cheeks. I’ve been experimenting with Aqualogica Glow+ Dewy Sunscreen SPF 50 PA++++ and Aqualogica Dewy Sunscreen Watermelon & Niacinamide SPF 50+ over the past few months. I’ve even occasionally tried Aqualogica Illuminate+ Dewy Sunscreen. This is my actual experience, including the positive, negative, and all points in between.

Initial Thoughts: Feel and Texture

The first thing that caught my attention was the lightweight, water-like texture of these sunscreens. Most Aqualogica variants feel like a thin gel-cream that spreads easily without tugging — which is a huge win for combination skin. This sunscreen don’t feel greasy or heavy like some sunscreens I’ve used in the past.

Upon application:

Even with heavy application, there is no white cast. Many SPF products produce a ghostly finish, especially on medium to darker complexion tones, so that’s a significant benefit.

My skin appeared refreshed and slightly radiant because to the hydrating and dewy finish. It pairs nicely under makeup or just alone for a “no-makeup” look.

This feels great if you want a healthy glow than a matte finish.. That said, for midday outings in heat, that dewy feel can sometimes lean toward a slightly shiny look in my T-zone.

Protection & Performance:

All the variants I tried claim SPF 50+ with broad-spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays, and even some protection against blue light.

For normal daily use it’s very appropriate and we can trust with protection, but when I go out in direct sunlight for long hours then I have to reapply for every 2-3 hours especially if I’m sweating. I feel that’s common advice for every sunscreen.

A few users says that it feels more like a moisturizer than a strong sunscreen, and other online users feedback indicate that it performs inconsistently when it comes to true sun protection. In my case, I didn’t get sunburned, but I also didn’t use this sunscreen on days when I was exposed to a lot of sun without a hat or shade.

What I Loved

Lightweight and non-sticky : As it is a thin gel-cream that spreads easily, making it suitable for those with combination skin like me.

No white cast: It doesn’t leave any white cast making it easy to use wear daily under makeup or bare face.

Feels hydrating: Helps to hydrate the dry areas of my skin but doesn’t make my skin greasy.

Multi-benefit formulas: Fruit extracts, vitamin C, niacinamide, and alpha arbutin are examples of multi-benefit compounds that can be used to improve texture and/or brightness.

Fragrance-free and colorless: Results in less irritation.

The Downsides

Dewy can mean shiny: That fresh, glowing finish is great for photography and normal days, but if you sweat or have very oily zones, it can look a bit glossy. Not as matte as some people might prefer.

Not ideal for heavy outdoor work:

I wouldn’t rely on Aqualogica alone for full-day direct sun exposure without reapplication or sun protective clothing. Some users online even reported feeling it was more moisturising than protective.

Mixed experiences from others: Community feedback is very mixed — from people loving it as a daily sunscreen to others saying it caused breakouts, tingling, or that they felt it didn’t help much with tanning or protection. (That said, everyone’s skin is different — yours might react or benefit differently too.)

If you’re looking for:

An everyday sunscreen that feels light, hydrating, and looks good on skin — yes, it’s worth trying.
Something for intense sun or sports, you might want a more robust, sweat-resistant formula.
Combination skin and glow, these variants are definitely enjoyable — but monitor how your skin responds over time.

For me, Aqualogica sunscreens became part of my daily routine — not a holy grail, but a comfy, pleasant sunscreen I enjoy using — especially on normal days when heavy sun isn’t a concern.
